Services offered at Pongratz Law are provided on a retainer or flat fee payment basis.
A RETAINER requires the up-front payment of a fee by the client, which is retained by Pongratz Law in an interest-bearing account. As legal services are provided, corresponding attorney fees and costs are withdrawn from the client’s funds. Interest generated in the client account goes to the Maine Bar Association by law, to fund a variety of services by the State. If funds are depleted prior to completion of representation, the client must replenish the account. Any balance remaining at the completion of services is returned to the client.
A FLAT FEE is paid as full payment for a particular legal matter. It is determined and paid prior to the commencement of representation and requires no further payment by the client. We strive to provide a flat fee option in all possible cases so as to eliminate client uncertainty over cost of services. Once the flat fee is paid, clients know that no additional payment will be necessary.
In some cases, usually personal injury matters, we will provide our services under a “contingency agreement”, whereby the client pays no attorney fees up-front and the firm later retains an agreed-upon percentage of any recovered amount. No recovery means no payment of attorney fees.
